Lake County Girls/Guys Raised In The South (G.R.I.T.S.) 4-H!
G.R.I.T.S. is looking for kids ages 5-18 that have an interest and want to be part of a club, or what we like to call, a family. We also need those parent volunteers, too!
What is a 4-H Club?
4-H is a U.S.-based network of youth organizations whose mission is “engaging youth to reach their fullest potential while advancing the field of youth development.” Its name is a reference to the occurrence of the initial letter H four times in the organization’s original motto “head, heart, hands, and health.” The goal of 4-H is to develop citizenship, leadership, responsibility and life skills of youth through experiential learning programs and a positive youth development approach.
Our program all started with “miniature” horses and a donkey, but has grown to cover a wide range of animals for county projects such as rabbits and chickens! We welcome equines of all “sizes” and if you do not have your own horse, but want to be a part of our club, we have minis we will lease for your project.
We love helping out our community and are not afraid to get involved to make a difference. One of our favorite ways we give back to our community include visiting Assisted Living Facilities with our “show” animals and projects. G.R.I.T.S 4-H is always a part of the Mt. Dora Christmas Parade and the kids love walking the animals along the parade route. We participate in local horse shows, volunteer at pumpkin patches and host fund-raisers throughout the season!
State and County Fairs are a great opportunity to get involved and showcase projects were proud of. Due to COVID-19 we are staying tuned to see if the fairs will take place and paying attention to safety measures taking place for these events.
Currently, G.R.I.T.S. 4-H is at max capacity for members. Due to COVID-19 we’ve had to make some adjustments. We will continue to keep those of you interested in joining for next season informed. If you would like more information, please fill out the form below and we will do our best to answer your inquiry. In the meantime, continue to check this page for updates!
