G.R.I.T.S. 4-H CLUB: Lake County Girls/Guys Raised In The South

Welcome to G.R.I.T.S. 4-H, an inclusive club inviting kids aged 5 to 18 (5 as of September 1st of the current year) to become part of our close-knit family. We're on the lookout for enthusiastic youngsters who want to be part of a club that fosters growth, learning, and fun. And, of course, we're excited to welcome parent volunteers who want to be involved in shaping the future of our youth. Our 4-H year aligns with the school year, starting in August.

What is 4-H?

4-H is a prominent network of youth organizations in the U.S., with a mission to engage young individuals and help them reach their fullest potential while advancing the field of youth development. The name "4-H" refers to the organization's original motto: "head, heart, hands, and health." Our primary goal is to nurture citizenship, leadership, responsibility, and life skills through experiential learning programs and a positive youth development approach. 4-H is a highly engaging hands-on program developed by UF, which demands commitment and dedication.

Our Journey:

Our club began with a love for "miniature" horses and a donkey, but it has since expanded to include a diverse range of animals for county projects, including rabbits and chickens. We warmly welcome all equine enthusiasts, regardless of the animal's size. Though we work extensively with animals, we are equally dedicated to community projects and various non-animal-based initiatives.

Making a Difference:

We take pride in making a positive impact on our community. One of our favorite ways to give back is by visiting Assisted Living Facilities with our animals and projects. Additionally, we actively participate in events like the Mt. Dora Christmas Parade, where our kids joyfully walk the animals along the parade route. Throughout the season, we volunteer with local businesses, host fundraisers, and contribute to the farm's events.

Showcasing Our Achievements: State and County Fairs provide us with an excellent opportunity to showcase the projects we are proud of. We believe in celebrating the hard work and dedication of our members, and these fairs give us the chance to shine.

Are You Ready to Join? Before you decide to join our program, consider the following:

  1. Can you commit to attending monthly meetings on Sundays?

  2. Will your youth complete a "Project Book"?

  3. Are you available to participate in our Community Service Projects?

  4. Are you aware that our 4-H group is not solely focused on farm animals?
